My Father's Chapter

My Father's Chapter

Spring came and went since the last time I wrote to you. Momentum was picking up in my world after a long winter of healing from surgery. The chocolate creation project for Nestle was in the planning stage (conference calls with chocolate engineers, sketches and research). I had just been recognized as one of "America's Woodworking Greats" by WOOD magazine and enjoyed a short vacation in Moab where I got to climb and bike a bit. My body was healing, sales were happening, videos were being edited and uploaded to my YouTube Channel, exhibits and museum events were coming up, inspiration grew and things were just getting back into gear after a long winter.

Alas, life…in that shocking, poignant and painful way…reared its head. The same day I sent the last e-newsletter (April 29th) my father was diagnosed with 4th stage pancreatic cancer. He had been admitted to the hospital that day for tests during a routine exam. I was with him when the doctor came into his room, closed the door, sat down and told us his grim prognosis. Many of you follow the blog where I shared the journey of my father’s illness so I won’t go into detail.

Dad passed away June 2nd.

The last months have been focused on family.  I continue to tend my mother (they were married 50 years) as I get my own feet back on the ground, round up my gumption, find inspiration, and get back after “it” both inside and outside the studio. Naps seem more necessary than usual. Grace and patience are welcome companions in between the bumpy stuff.

I simply wanted to connect with you.  Will be in touch soon…
