Live Edge Slabs at BT
BT has established a relationship with Live Edge Woodworks on Whidbey Island, WA to inventory and sell unique wood slabs in the Rocky Mountain states. Our first shipment included 17 various sized slabs of Douglas fir, Alaskan yellow cedar, western red cedar, Sitka spruce and alder.
The slabs are commonly 2-1/2 inches thick and up to 20 feet in length. These extraordinary pieces of wood have live (wany) edges which can be retained to give an organic feel to any table, counter, bar or desk-top. Our slabs have almost a primeval feel to them since they are sawn whole from large logs. The logs come mainly from Washington and Alaska and are salvaged from old logging areas, burn piles, beaches or blow-down in the forest. Many of these logs have laid on the ground for decades.
Big Timberworks is offering these slabs for sale as prepared (flattened, sanded, and filled) or unprepared slabs. We can also fabricate these slabs into a working piece of furniture using our architectural woodworking and/or metalworking shops.
These tops are not only rare and one-of-a-kind, they also provide a reminder of our once great old-growth forests.
